Let us examine three different ways to do

              "Bible Study Research"!

You may ask: "How can I study the Bible if I don't own a Study Bible?

[1] "Bible Only" Users [Starting Simply to Simply Get Started!]

If you are a "Bible User", here are some "user-friendly" study suggestions:

  • Use Version(s) of your choice. Comparing two or more different versions for clarification of different word definitions. (One well-known author has used more than 15 different versions for Scripture quotes in his very successful spiritual motivational book.)
  • Read meditatively, thoughtfully, and prayerfully allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you. John 14:15-17; 15:26; Proverbs 3:3, 7:3; Hebrews 8:10
  • Make a journal of your inspirations by writing out the Scriptures that impress you.
  • As you understand it meditate as you let God's Word speak to you. Psalm 19:14; 119:27
  • Ask yourself: "How does it apply to my life today?" Psalm 119: 97; 105;133; 148, Joshua 1:8
  • Personalize it as your prayer --- putting yourself and your current needs into a biblically applied prayer to pray back to God. (Think of how different Israel’s history would have been if Deuteronomy 17:18-20 had been obeyed by their kings --- King David included!)
  • Memorizing God’s Word for the benefit of 24-7-365 lifetime inspiration and instruction on life’s pathway. God can speak to you any hour of the day or night. Psalm 19:14; 119:11
  • Pray daily that what you have read will change your actions, attitudes, character, and all human relationships to reflect Christ’s image. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; 1 Corinthians 10:31

Some of you may say: "I do have some study aids in my Bible, but honestly, I seldom use them!"

[2] "Bible Study With Minimum Study Helps"
  • The minimal study aids are very common in Scofield Reference; Good News Bible; and The Open Bible, among many others.
  • These Bibles often contain some introductions, cross references, and a concordance.
  • Some "Specialty Bibles --- Men's, Women's, Student, Youth, and Children's Bibles and others that are designed to meet very specialized interests or needs.

Question:  What does doing STUDY BIBLE RESEARCH involve?

[3] "Researching Study Bibles"
(Here Are Some Suggested "Treasure Hunt" Steps).
Gather all the Bibles you already possess and evaluate their research potential.
We generally recommend Study Bibles that use Multiple-Contributors:

  • Life Application Study Bible (5 versions);
  • English Standard Version Study Bible;
  • New International Version Study Bible,
  • New Living Translation Study Bible
  • Visit the Sidebar "10- Related Links" to connect with publishers on the internet.
  • [For more information visit "Bible Choices" on the www.studiedbible.org website at "02-C Study Bible Shopping" and comparison chart.]
  • Be sure to examine carefully the two suggested ways to do Research below!

PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS ABOUT STUDY BIBLE RESEARCH

    1. Examine and evaluate the research "features" of a contemporary Research Study Bible. [Visit the www.studiedbible.org website at 02-B "Research Features."]
    2. Evaluate your Study Bibles (present or potential) for its publisher, editor, contributors, theological bias, agenda, who uses and/or recommends it, and whether it is focused on letting the Bible research within the Bible itself.
    3. Keep in mind what Jesus said in John 14:15; & John 15:26,27 about the role of the Holy Spirit as our ultimate source of authority in helping us to learn all we need to know about Jesus Christ (Matthew 11:28-30) and living to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

                                      Two Study Bibles

The Website Author's Case For Two Study Bible Options:

Question: Who would challenge the fact that the communication world has changed from what it was years ago --- even last year.?   (it is also a fact that it is destined to continue to change. Is there anything new about that?)

More than one of my family and friends have advised me that I need to change or adapt my website to the contemporary "Twitter 140 & Texting" generation who otherwise will probably not read my website as it has been published on the internet before 2011.  They critique it as having "T.M.I."!  Their counsel inteerprets that to mean that my website has: "Too Much Information."

    My trusted friends advise me:
    •  Keep It Simple Stupid ~ (One suggested this revision:  "Keep it Super Simple"!)
    •  Use less text.
    •  Make it modern.
    •  Eye catching.
    •  Brief
    •  To the point.

1 ~ I am here in 2011 offering my first attempt to provide a "contemporary" or "modern" version of our goal for essential Bible research study.  I have seriously attempted to follow these above suggestions in the hopes that the "now generation" will find something that is helpful and give Bible Research very serious consideration.

2 ~ For the older generation who are more into "in-depth" research I also offer my "traditional" approach which follows separately. Perhaps these different approaches will also serve as a bridge to stimulate communication, dialogue, and understanding between the generations.

    • First gather together all the Bibles you already possess and evaluate their research potential. Which ones have most "gold-mining tools (features)?
    • Put them together on an accessible Bible Research Shelf in your home.
    • Examine and evaluate their research features: What helpful "tools" do they have to offer? (Note: Every Study Bible has value and deserves to be included in your personal Bible Research Library. Even Bibles that have viewpoints with which you may not agree can be a source of information however good or unworthy. We can learn from our disagreements if we are not disagreeable. We must be discerning.)
